Professing Godliness

Recently I reactivated my social media account long enough to sell a few items that we need to get rid of and I’m sick to my stomach with what I see! My feed is FULL of people who claim the name of Christ, showing off their bodies. Women constantly trying to make themselves look better with make-up, workouts, clothing, hair styles, etc. A world completely focused on self and completely devoid of a focus on Christ!!

I’m reminded of myself before Christ made me new. I constantly worried about how I looked. Did I look skinny enough? Was my hair done just right for the camera? I can’t post that picture…I look awful!! All thoughts that ran through my head any time I took a picture or got on social media.

But really…..what good is all of that? We who claim the name of Christ and are truly born again should not be focused on ourselves and showing off our bodies!! We should not be attracking attention based off of our looks. We should be hiding our bodies and sharing Christ!! Not ourselves!! How are we glorifying Christ by sharing half naked pictures, painting our faces with makeup and making sure our hair is styled just right?

Scriptures tell us, as godly women to do just the opposite!!

1 Timothy 2:9-10

“In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety: not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array: But (which becomes women professing godliness) with good works.”

Peter is talking to wives in this particular passage but what he says still applies to women….

1 Peter 2: 3-4

“Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, of putting on of apparel: But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.”

These fleshy bodies will fade and age and eventually die.

1 Peter 1:24-25

“For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower thereof falls away: But the word of the Lord endures for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached to you.”

Ladies, how can you claim Christ and yet boast of yourself? How can you deny what the scriptures say, choosing yourself over His truth, and possibly bring anyone to Christ? Everything about the world says “look at me!” We who are true born again believers should be saying “Look at HIM! HE ALONE IS WORTHY OF ALL ATTENTION! Not me! I am nothing! This life is all about Him!! How blasphemous for us to draw attention to ourselves rather than to Him!!

As I raise three precious daughters in this world filled with lust and sexuality my stomach churns at what the world says it means to be a woman. I remember the struggles I faced as a young girl growing up in such a nasty, vile culture and I pray that I can do God’s word justice in their lives. I pray that they see Christ in me and not a mother who is obsessed with how she looks and people looking at her. I pray they understand that their bodies our for their husbands, in this life, and ultimately Jesus Christ Himself!!

1 Corinthians 6: 19-20

“What? Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own? For you are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

I thank God for saving me and bringing me to the truth of who He wants me to be as a true born again daughter! And I pray that you ladies claiming Christ put aside the world’s view of women and whole heartedly embrace who Christ calls you to be in this dark and vile world. I pray you repent of loving flesh over Him. I pray that every time you paint your body with make-up to “fix” yourself or change your hair to make it “better” you would stop and think about what you are truly saying….God didn’t mess up when He made you and to think otherwise is calling Him a liar and saying you know better than your Creator.

God sees great value in a women who adorns herself with modest apparel and not gold, or makeup or clothing like the world flaunts. Isn’t God’s opinion far greater than the world’s?

I realize this is not a popular subject and most of you are going to be offended at these words…..and I’m ok with that! I pray that you would put aside your flesh, fear of being rejected and pride long enough to really allow God’s truth to speak to your heart!!
