Food From Afar

“She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.”
— Proverbs 31:14 (KJV)

I thought I’d share some of the little tasks that we have been doing as keepers of the home. I have always had a passion for feeding my family healthy food because God gave us everything we need. I believe He gave us food and its evident that the nutrients and things we need are found in them, so as the Proverbs 31 woman does, I strive the give my family the best I can.

The girls and I made a sourdough starter and have been enjoying finding way to use it!

Our big girl has been asking to bake with the sourdough and my heart is so blessed by watching her thrive and want to learn how to be a godly young lady.

We were not able to get a big garden going this year but we have still been able to purchase some things and do small batches of canning in our tiny space which has been a blessing!

Pickled Banana Peppers

We have also been enjoying the bounty God has given us right here on our own property….we keep finding hidden black berry patches and can walk outside to handfuls of berries almost daily! Few actually make it inside so there has been no jelly/jam made but that’s completely fine!! I’m amazed at all of the edible things we keep finding growing on their own all around our homestead. I always dreamed of being able to harvest food from my yard and God has blessed us with so much that we didn’t even have to tend to!

“Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” — Matthew 6:26 (KJV)

It’s been such a joy stepping into my God given role as keeper of the home. It’s even more fulfilling watching my babies hunger for and strive for the same. I’ve struggled with wanting to post anything as these things can seem so mediocre and unimportant but really they aren’t….it’s a privilege to serve my family in this way!
