Mark 10:13-16
“And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.”

Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Lately, this mom thing has seemed much more challenging. I have felt like I’m failing to train up these precious souls into the Word of God. We have dealt with what feels like an overwhelming amount of issues ranges from them talking back to ignoring what we say. Adding to these challenges is the fact that we have been mocked, cursed and shamed because we read the Bible to our children. We are teaching them to be reverent of God’s word and to follow it in spirit and in truth so we have been shamed.

Today the girls and I read James chapters 1 and 2 together and I got a small glimpse of the promise God gives us in Proverbs 22:6!! They are getting it!! My 5 and 7 year olds understand that faith without works is dead(James 2:20 & 26)!! They understand that it isn’t enough to just believe in Jesus as our savior, as even the devil’s believe and tremble(James 2:19)!!! They understood and were able to verbalize the concept of salvation being a free gift from God that we have to accept and then maintain!

The modern “church” teaches that all you have to do is believe in Jesus to be saved and that any works are being legalistic and trying to work our way to heaven. Yet simply reading God’s word proves this is false in so many places and these innocent gifts from God grasped that concept so quickly and easily!! We can not work our way to salvation. Instead we have to recognize our need for a savior, choose to accept His gift of salvation, repent of our sinful and fleshly ways and then follow HIM (ie LOVE Him) by keeping HIS commandments and letting Him rule in our hearts!

Check out Tim’s recent post on biblical love.

My precious girls got this concept and then instantly asked why those they love don’t understand?? Then they prayed for their loved ones and friends with a pure innocent heart!

Mamas, God’s word is true!! And biblical love never fails!! Keep holding onto His promises no matter what those around you throw at you!! Train up these precious arrows(Psalm 127:4) in God’s truth and you will see His promises take hold!! This season of parenting littles may be one of the most challenging things we as godly women will ever do, but we have a promise from the Creater of these precious souls that is far greater than anything we could ever imagine!!

Psalms 127
¹ (A Song of degrees for Solomon.) Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
² It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
³ Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
⁴ As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
⁵ Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

“Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.”
— James 2:19

“But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?”
— James 2:20

“For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”
— James 2:26 (KJV)
