Ladies keep telling me, “I’m not comfortable in long dresses like that. They get in the way. I would be so hot with my hair covered like that. I get a headache if my hair is pulled back. I just wouldn’t be comfortable dressed like that!” And the final one…”I’m not convicted of the same things you are!”
My question to them and anyone else who uses that as a reason not to obey God’s word…..Was Jesus comfortable when He died on the cross for your soul?
Was Jesus comfortable when they spit on Him, punched Him and whipped HIm? Was he comfortable when He then had to carry His cross? Was He comfortable when they nailed Him to the cross and lifted Him up, stripping away His clothing and pushing a crown of thorns on His head? Was He comfortable as He hung there waiting for the pain and anguish of His last breathe to come?
Daughters, this life isn’t about our comfort like the modern “church” teaches. We aren’t promised a life of comfort and ease. As a matter of fact we are promised tribulation, persecution and even being uncomfortable!!
“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33
“And he that takes not his cross, and follows after Me, is not worthy of Me. He that finds his life shall lose it: and he that loses his life for My sake shall find it.”
Matthew 10:38-39
Was Jesus comfortable during His entire ministry as he traveled from place to place with no place to call “home?”
“And Jesus says to him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man has not where to lay His head.”
Matthew 8:20
We have begun a life of homesteading and with that comes a lot of physical work, sweating and being uncomfortable. There are times, more than I would like to admit, when I think “Ugh!! I would be so much cooler in a pair of shorts and a tank top! I wouldn’t be this hot!! I would get my dress caught of sticks and wood!!” Then i have to remind myself that those small inconveniences are uncomparable to the discomfort He felt when He gave all for me!
So many people want to hide behind their own personal convictions or interpretation of the Bible but the scriptures are not up for private interpretation. Yes there will be differences in the specifics of how our lives look but there are basic guidelines laid out in scripture that we are to follow.
“Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.”
2 Peter 1:20
He asks us to cover our bodies and our heads and yet He endured all that pain and suffering for us. In comparison, this small amount of discomfort is nothing!! And I don’t know about you but I definitely can’t imagine standing before God Almighty and saying to Him ” I would have been uncomfortable with my hair and body covered like you said! I didn’t think that part of you word applied to me! I wasn’t convicted to follow that scripture, its the Holy Spirit fault!” Can you imagine?
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
Romans 8:1
“So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.”
Romans 8:8
“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
Luke 9:23
This life is about denying our flesh and living for the one who endured more pain and suffering than we can fathom. He bore the weight of the world’s sin and the Father turned His back on Him. God promises that as long as we seek Him and abide in Him, He will never turn His back on us…..so daughters, I encourage you to really look at all the reasons you aren’t following God’s word and ask youself….”Was Jesus comfortable? “Do I want to stand face to face with God and say that to Him?”
We are promised that if we abide in Him and endure to the end, our reward in heaven is far greater than anything we could ask or imagine!! Can you handle being a little uncomfortable in this life?
Set your mind on things above!!
“If you then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God. Set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth. For you are dead, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall you also appear with Him in glory.”
Colossians 3:1-4
